Penn State, Pitt and Duquesne to offer Comcast’s ‘Xfinity on Campus’ for students

Students who live on campus can now watch live TV, On Demand & recorded programming across devices

Today, Comcast announced that it would be bringing its Xfinity On Campus service to Penn State University, University of Pittsburgh and Duquesne University, allowing students to watch live TV, Xfinity On Demand and recorded content on their IP-enabled devices, including laptops, tablets, smartphones and, new this year, Roku players. The service is included with room and board for students living in on-campus housing.

Xfinity On Campus offers approximately 80 live channels including every major broadcast network, as well as channels like AMC, Bravo, Comedy Central, ESPN, FX and MTV through Comcast’s Xfinity Stream app and portal. The service also includes access to thousands of current season TV shows and hit movies via Xfinity On Demand. While off campus, students can use the Xfinity Stream app to login and access TV Everywhere programming that’s part of their subscription.

“There’s no denying that college students rely heavily on their mobile devices for their academic success and their busy social lives,” said Dr. Doug Frizzell, vice president for student life at Duquesne University. “We are thrilled to offer this opportunity from Comcast to our students so they can enrich their campus experience.”

“This was a logical next step for our TV service offerings to our students,” said Chad E. Henning, assistant director of housing at Penn State University.  “We must continually adapt to changing technology needs and meeting our student expectations.”

Students can also upgrade their Xfinity On Campus accounts to include a selection of premium channels, including Showtime and STARZ, as well as the Sports Entertainment Package, which includes popular channels like ESPN Goal Line.

Xfinity On Campus provides an opportunity to introduce a younger audience to Comcast’s next-generation video product, Xfinity X1. Xfinity X1 delivers an immersive and personalized entertainment experience across all devices in an interface that is sleek, intuitive and makes search and discovery of content easier than ever.

Xfinity On Campus is easy and cost-effective for a university’s IT department to maintain. To register for the service, students can visit http://comca.st/2xpY4pA, type in their school name and authenticate with their student user name and password. Once registered, students can watch their programming anytime by downloading the Xfinity Stream app or by visiting https://tv.xfinity.com and logging in with their student credentials.

Penn State is one of the largest schools in the nation to offer Xfinity On Campus. Other Xfinity On Campus schools in Comcast’s Keystone Region include Carnegie Mellon University, Lebanon Valley College, Elizabethtown College, Lock Haven University, Juniata College and York College.
