On Saturday, April 22, thousands of employees, family and friends volunteered to improve their local communities and make a lasting impact at almost 20 sites across the Western PA region as part of the 16th annual Comcast Cares Day.

Comcast NBCUniversal’s commitment to volunteerism this year saw projects at the Pittsburgh Park Conservancy at the Frick Environmental Center, Pittsburgh Botanic Gardens, Urban League of Pittsburgh Family Support Center, Veterans Place, Sarah Heinz House, Bethel Park Historical Society, Clairton Elementary School, Westmoreland County Food Bank, ABS Athletic Field in Avonmore, the Washington Area Humane Society, Cascade Park Pool in New Castle, the Lifesteps center in Indiana, Animal Friends on Camp Horne Road, Treasure House on McKnight Road, McGuire Memorial Home in New Brighton, Education Partnership in Pittsburgh’s West End, the Jefferson County Humane Society and Animal Shelter in Wintersville, OH, Salem Children’s Trust, Inc. in Frostburg, MD, the Rape and Domestic Violence Information Center in Morgantown, WV and Youth Services System in Wheeling, WV.

This year, the Company expected more than 100,000 volunteers to participate in approximately 900 projects across the country and around the world. To date, volunteers have contributed nearly 5 million volunteer hours at 7,700 projects since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001.

“It’s truly amazing what’s possible when so many volunteers donate their time to make a difference in the lives of others,” said Christine Whitaker, Senior Vice President of Comcast’s Keystone Region. “I’m inspired by the community’s response to Comcast Cares Day, and am so thankful for the participants who help to make this effort a success.”

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteered on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year.  To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $20 million in grants to local non-profit organizations who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.
