Comcast upgrades Steubenville system, bringing more channels, faster speeds

Continues Investment that Began with November Launch of 34 Outdoor WiFi Hotspots

Comcast today launched an upgrade to its Steubenville system that brings customers additional channels, most of them in high definition, and faster internet speeds at no additional cost.

Customers in the Steubenville system now have 16 additional HD choices and 11 new channels, including BBC World News, Aspire, Revolt, Pac-12, Crime & Investigation, WGN America, Ovation, NBA League Pass, NHL Center Ice, MLB Extra Innings and MLS Direct Kick – the last five of these in HD. Existing channels now available in HD include BBC America, Discovery Family Channel, Game Show Network, MLB Network, NHL Network, NBA TV, Nat Geo WILD, OWN, Oxygen, SEC Network and Smithsonian Channel.

The speed of Comcast’s popular Blast! internet service will increase from 105 to 200 Mbps and speeds of 100 Mbps are available in a new Performance Pro internet tier. The upgrade also makes the Steubenville system capable of providing 1 gigabit-per-second service in the future.

In Ohio, the Steubenville system includes the City of Steubenville, Cross Creek Township, Island Creek Township, Salem Township (Jefferson County), Steubenville Township, Wells Township, Mingo Junction, New Alexandria and Wintersville. In West Virginia the system includes Richmond, Wayne Township, the City of Follansbee, the City of Wellsburg and most of Brooke County.

“We are proud to continue investing in our network to bring our customers in the Steubenville area more choice and more speed,” said Keystone Region Senior Vice President Christine Whitaker. “Combined with our outdoor WiFi investments in the Steubenville area, the recent launches of Xfinity Mobile and Xfinity xFi, and our partnerships with Netflix, Pandora and You Tube on our X1 platform, we’re continuing to add significant value for customers across our product portfolio.”

Outside the home, Xfinity Internet customers have complimentary access to nearly 18 million Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide, including 34 hotspots in the Steubenville area along Sunset Boulevard near shopping destinations and restaurants; at Hollywood City Center; near restaurants on University Boulevard and Adams Street; at Rotary Park; adjacent to grocery and auto parts stores on North 7th Avenue; and near Steubenville High School.

Xfinity xFi is a platform that provides a simple digital dashboard for customers to set up their home Wi-Fi network, find their password, see what devices are connected, troubleshoot issues, set parental controls, and even pause Wi-Fi access on their home network during dinner or bedtime.
