When Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Elías Díaz announced his Shoes for Venezuela campaign, members of Comcast’s Unidos team stepped up.
So did Chuck Gordon, president of Gordon Shoes in Homestead and New Balance in Wexford. Both stores have been drop-off locations for shoes donated to the effort and Chuck is coordinating shipment to Venezuela.
In 2018, Díaz collected shoes in Pittsburgh for children in Venezuela and during the offseason he hand-delivered these shoes during an event in Maracaibo. When members of Comcast’s Unidos employee resource group heard about the campaign, they responded quickly.
Unidos collected 200 pairs of shoes and delivered them to New Balance, where they got to meet Díaz and Gordon. Unidos is one of six employee resource groups Comcast sponsors in the Keystone Region. They are dedicated to growing and developing employees, contributing to community service, and building an inclusive and collaborative workplace.
