Employees Learn How Diversity Builds Championship Teams at Military Challenge Grant Event

The 2019 Military Challenge Grant Event at the Roberto Clemente Museum in Pittsburgh

Recently, members of Comcast’s employee resource groups attended Comcast’s  2019 Military Challenge Grant Event at the Roberto Clemente Museum in Pittsburgh. Employee resource groups (ERGs) throughout the country applied for a grant through Comcast’s Military and Veterans Affairs Group to promote collaboration among ERGs, show how the military community is inclusive of every ERG and to boost military community understanding among employees. This was the second year that Comcast’s Keystone Region received the grant, bringing together employees from throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia.

Author Andrew Conte delivered the keynote address, sharing stories from The Color of Sundays, his book about Bill Nunn’s contributions as a talent scout to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Nunn helped recruit some of the Steelers’ most iconic players from Historically Black Colleges and Universities, including members of the legendary “Steel Curtain.” Conte detailed how Nunn was able to help the Steelers build championship teams by recruiting players who might have otherwise been overlooked and shared the impact that diverse team-building has had on the franchise’s success.

The one-day seminar also explored leadership, diversity and inclusion during a panel discussion among ERG and Talent team leadership. ERGs are important to the health and growth of individuals as well as Comcast.  More information about Comcast’s ERG’s and their impact on developing a productive workforce is available here.
