Last week, Comcast’s Keystone Region celebrated the launch of MyAbilities Network, the region’s seventh employee resource group.  Comcast’s Vice President, Accessibility Tom Wlodkowski joined employees in the region to share his powerful story and vision for how Comcast and the Xfinity brand are innovating for customers with disabilities.

MyAbilites’ mission is to create awareness & help educate people of disability challenges in the workforce and in our communities.  “I’m sure everyone here at Comcast at least knows of one person with a disability whether it is seen or unseen,” said Angie Schneider, Co-lead for MyAbilities. “Knowing that we work for an employer that cares about those that struggle with disabilities and what challenges they may face is another great reason to love coming to Comcast every day.”

Comcast’s accessibility services include the X1 talking guide, a voice guidance feature that gives customers with visual disabilities the freedom to independently explore thousands of TV shows and movies. The X1 voice remote also offers independence to customers who have limited mobility or dexterity or who have visual disability. In addition, X1 has enhanced closed captioning controls that can be customized for greater readability. Recently, Comcast announced eye gaze technology that that gives people with physical disabilities like spinal cord injuries or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) the ability to navigate their television using only their eyes.

Co-lead Derek Boyer explained why he got involved in MyAbilities: “I’m inspired each and every day by my son Bryce, who has Autism, so when I heard about the launch of this new ERG I was immediately drawn to it and inspired to help in any way I could all in an effort for not only my son but for all people with disabilities.”
