Celebrating National Veterans & Military Families Month

At Comcast, we are proud to be a military-ready company. As we observe National Veterans & Military Families Month throughout November, we are reminded that across our company and within our communities, we’re united in service and in our support for our nation’s heroes and their families.

Supporting Our Nation’s Heroes

Our tradition of hiring and supporting the military community began with our founder, World War II U.S. Navy veteran Ralph Roberts, and has continued to today.

And started by military veteran employees, Operation Old Glory is our way of honoring the American flag and what it represents to people in our communities. Through this program, our dedicated teammates work together to replace worn or damaged flags outside homes and businesses at no cost to the property owners. Any home or business is eligible for a free flag replacement through this program, not just those that are subscribed to our services. We also ensure that all worn flags are retired with respect and strict adherence to military protocols.

Keeping the Military Community Connected

We are committed to bridging the digital divide, and ensuring the military community can access life-changing resources including military benefits, telehealth, education and new career opportunities. This includes installing more than 1,250 WiFi-connected Lift Zones in community centers nationwide – including the Veterans Leadership Program of Western Pennsylvania – expanding access to digital skills training through Digital Navigator programs and driving awareness of free and low-cost Internet options.

Earlier this year, we partnered with Adagio Health and the YWCA of Westmoreland County to engage women veterans in a digital literacy workshop. We also surprised the veterans with laptops, to help continue their digital skills training at home and improve their quality of life.

Comcast is a proud participant in the Federal Government’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) – which provides veterans and other eligible people with a credit of up to $30 per month toward their Internet and/or mobile service. Thanks to ACP, eligible Comcast customers can get home Internet either through Comcast’s Internet Essentials or Internet Essentials Plus at no cost once the Federal credit is applied.

Comcast customers who are veterans or currently serving in the military are also eligible for a $50 prepaid card through December 31, 2023.

These efforts are part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity. This includes a partnership with NPower to support programs designed to launch digital careers for active-duty military members approaching transition into civilian life, veterans and military spouses.

United in Service

We value the skills and experiences of our military community, and it’s our mission to provide an empowering and inclusive workplace culture for these teammates. It is one of the reasons we have been recognized as a top military-friendly company by the Department of Defense, Military Times, Military Friendly® and DiversityInc. Most recently, we were recognized as a 5 Star Employer in the 2023 VETS Indexes Employer Awards and named the nation’s #1 telecommunications company and #2 overall employer in the latest ‘Best for Vets’ ranking by Military Times.

Since 2015, we’ve hired more than 21,000 veterans, National Guard and reserve members and military spouses companywide. One of those team members is Kevin Hodits, Director of Field Operations and Marine in Comcast’s Keystone Region.
