Comcast has announced it is awarding two Morgantown non-profit organizations in Monongalia County, West Virginia a total of $30,000 in grants to help close the digital divide. These funds, awarded to the Morgantown Area Partnership and West Virginia Women Work, are part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity through programs and community partnerships that connect people to the Internet, advance economic mobility and open doors for the next generation of innovators, entrepreneurs, storytellers, and creators.
Comcast’s grants will support local initiatives in Monongalia County including:
- Morgantown Area Partnership – Focused on local developmental opportunities, the Morgantown Area Partnership will leverage its grant to reinvest in residents. Funding will be used to maintain and expand a resume bank that was originated by the Monongalia County Commissioners, as well as to host resume writing classes and digital equity trainings.
- West Virginia Women Work – Centered on helping women advance in the workplace, West Virginia Women Work will use its grant to provide professional, career, and workplace development opportunities to help women enter the skilled trades including construction and manufacturing.
“This Comcast grant enables West Virginia Women Work to devote more resources to women in our local community as they pursue training and career opportunities in the skilled trades,” said Carol Phillips, CEO of West Virginia Women Work. “We are appreciative of Comcast’s commitment to Monongalia County and recognize the positive impact they’re making for our residents, businesses, and local community.”
Comcast currently serves more than 45 municipalities in West Virginia and is continuing to expand its network to connect more residents and businesses. Earlier this year, Comcast was selected by the Monongalia County Commissioners to extend its network to more than 2,100 homes and businesses across the county and was voted by local Morgantown customers as one of 2024’s Best Internet Providers as part of this year’s Best in Mountaineer Country awards.
“Comcast continues to demonstrate why they are the right partner for Monongalia County through their commitment to expanding access to fast, reliable Internet, while also investing in our local communities with these grants,” said Monongalia County Commissioner Thomas C. Bloom.
“Supporting Morgantown Area Partnership and West Virginia Women Work helps strengthen the local workforce in Monongalia County,” said Kevin Broadhurst, Vice President of Government and Regulatory Affairs of Comcast’s Keystone Region, which is based in Pennsylvania. “Comcast is proud to help equip residents with the digital literacy skills they need to flourish while continuing to connect them to its state-of-the-art network.”
