Comcast will donate $420,000 in digital equity grants to support workforce development, digital literacy education, entrepreneurship coaching, STEM initiatives, digital navigator networks, and programs dedicated to advancing economic mobility by strengthening job skills to 10 local organizations. These grants will help ensure the Greater Pittsburgh area is a thriving center for economic growth, culture, and industry.
The support is made possible through Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion comprehensive initiative to advance digital equity and help build a future of unlimited possibilities. Grant recipients are:
- Boys and Girls Clubs of Western Pennsylvania
- BUILD.org
- Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania
- Girls Scouts of Western Pennsylvania
- HEARTH
- Literacy Pittsburgh
- Per Scholas Pittsburgh
- Sara Heinz House
- United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania
- Vintage Senior Services
Pennsylvania residents also benefit from access to 176 Comcast Lift Zones that provide a robust and free WiFi solution in supportive neighborhood locations like nonprofits, community centers, gyms, parks and recreation facilities. They offer students, adults, senior citizens and veterans more ways to get online and fully participate in educational opportunities and the digital economy. Lift Zones also provide access to hundreds of hours of free educational and digital-skills content. In addition, many sites have digital navigators on staff who can help people learn how to use a computer and get online. Nationwide, Comcast has surpassed 1,250 Lift Zones.
“Comcast is proud to strengthen the city we live and work in by supporting our dedicated non-profit partners,” said Ricky Frazier Jr., Senior Vice President of Comcast for the Keystone Region. “Whether through Comcast Lift Zones or grants supporting Digital Navigators, we are always looking for ways to bring connectivity and digital training to those who need it most.”
