On Saturday, April 22, local Comcast NBCUniversal employees and their families, friends and community partners will “make change happen” as they volunteer to improve several sites in the Pittsburgh area as part of the 16th annual Comcast Cares Day.
Comcast Cares Day is more than just a day – it’s the culmination of Comcast NBCUniversal’s commitment to volunteerism that began when the company was founded more than 50 years ago. From using technology to create positive change, such as wiring community centers and libraries and teaching digital literacy skills, to mentoring youth, to beautifying parks, Comcast NBCUniversal employees volunteer on this day, and throughout the year, to make a lasting impact. This year, the Company expects more than 100,000 volunteers to participate in approximately 900 projects across the country and around the world. To date, volunteers have contributed nearly 5 million volunteer hours at 7,700 projects since Comcast Cares Day began in 2001. Volunteers will be located at the following Comcast Cares Day sites on April 22:
- Pittsburgh Botanic Gardens, 799 Pinkerton Road, Oakdale. Volunteers will plant trees from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
- McGuire Memorial Home, 2119 Mercer Road, New Brighton. Activities will include landscaping and beautification of the property from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 pm.
- Pittsburgh Park Conservancy at the Frick Environmental Center, 2005 Beechwood Boulevard, Pittsburgh. Volunteers will clear invasive plants and brush, clean up winter debris and landscape the facility from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm.
- Urban League of Pittsburgh Family Support Center, 101 Hazlett Street, Pittsburgh. Volunteers will be cleaning debris and tree limbs, repairing the computer lab, cleaning toys, cutting grass, mulching and planting flowers from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm.
- Veterans Place, 945 Washington Boulevard, East Liberty. Volunteers will be staging a food and clothing collection drive and will provide career assistance through mentoring, resume writing and computer training from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 pm.
- Education Partnership, 281 Corliss Street, West End. Volunteers will help sort and inventory classroom supplies and help with cleaning and landscaping from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 pm.
- Sarah Heinz House, 1 Heinz Street, North Side. Volunteers will clean, garden, organize and remove trash from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm.
- Treasure House, 7607 McKnight Road, Pittsburgh. Activities include cleaning, gardening, landscaping and organizing from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Animal Friends, 562 Camp Horne Road, Pittsburgh. Volunteers will assist with animal care, clean cages, clear walking trails and provide building and grounds maintenance from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Bethel Park Historical Society, 2600 South Park Road, Bethel Park. Volunteers will landscape, paint and clean the building from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
- Clairton Elementary School, 501 Waddell Avenue, Clairton. Activities will include landscaping, painting and cleaning from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Additional projects located in western Pennsylvania are the Westmoreland County Food Bank, ABS Athletic Field in Avonmore, the Washington Area Humane Society, Cascade Park Pool in New Castle and the Lifesteps center in Indiana.

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $20 million in grants to local non-profit organizations who have served as partners on Comcast Cares Day.
