Comcast today announced it has installed WiFi hotspots at nine City of Pittsburgh Parks as well as at three city Recreation Center playgrounds, continuing a partnership with the City that began last year with the provision of WiFi access to 22 senior and rec centers.

“We are pleased to continue working with the City of Pittsburgh on our shared vision to keep residents connected wherever they are,” said Lisa Birmingham, vice president of external and government affairs for Comcast’s Keystone Region. “We believe our investment in the largest WiFi network in the country and the City’s focus on connectivity will continue to benefit residents for many years to come.”

City parks are an enduring asset for all residents, who can now stay connected at the following locations:

  • Olympia Park, Mt. Washington
  • McKinley Park, Beltzhoover
  • Phillips Park, Carrick
  • Davis Parklet, Squirrel Hill
  • Ormsby Playground and Park, Southside Flats
  • Frick Park, Squirrel Hill
  • August Wilson Park, Hill District
  • Moore Park and Pool, Brookline
  • Grandview Park, Allentown
  • Warrington Rec Center Playground, Beltzhoover
  • Jefferson Rec Center Playground, Central Northside
  • Ammon Rec Center Playground, Hill District

“WiFi at these Pittsburgh parks is an excellent amenity that will attract a greater number of park users,” said Jenn Dailey, director of marketing and communications for the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy. “It will also open up opportunities for digitally-based information about the park to enhance their experience. More and more visitors to Pittsburgh’s beautiful parks are asking for WiFi access. The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy is excited Comcast is bringing WiFi to these parks.  People who might need to stay connected for personal or business can now make excursions they otherwise would have to miss.  Parks are places to communicate and build communities, whether in-person or online.”

Residents can access these hotspots by selecting “xfinitywifi” from the list of available networks on their laptops or mobile devices. Xfinity Internet customers will then enter their Comcast email and password; non-customers get access for two sessions per month, up to one hour each. The Xfinity WiFi App, available for free download on both iOS and Android devices, makes it easy to locate business and other outdoor hotspots, or residents can visit the hotspot finder map online at www.xfinity.com/wifi.
