Offers the Fastest Speeds to the Most Homes and Businesses Over Its Existing Network Infrastructure
PITTSBURGH, PA – April 17, 2018 – Comcast today announced that it is launching a new internet service that will deliver speeds up to 1 Gigabit-per-second (Gbps) deeper into residential and business customers in Western Pennsylvania and areas in northern West Virginia and Maryland. These speeds will be among the fastest and most widely available and include access to the nation’s largest Wi-Fi network of more than 19 million hotspots.
These speeds were introduced widely throughout the Greater Pittsburgh area and Morgantown, West Virginia last year.
- In Westmoreland County, this speed was launched in October 2017 in Greensburg, Irwin, Jeannette, Youngwood, New Stanton, Hunker, Manor, New Alexandria, Derry, Penn Township and Hempfield Township, among others. It has now launched in Latrobe, Derry Borough, Youngstown and Unity Township.
- In the Alle-Kiski Valley, this speed was launched in October 2017 in Fox Chapel, Verona, Oakmont, Harmarville, Springdale, New Kensington, Lower Burrell, Tarentum, Natrona Heights and Brackenridge, among others. It has now launched in Kittanning, Ford City, Freeport, South Buffalo, Buffalo, Worthington, Vandergrift, Apollo, Leechburg and Kiski, among other nearby areas.
- In Armstrong County, this speed is available in the boroughs of Kittanning, West Kittanning, Ford City, Ford Cliff, Manorville and Worthington and the townships of Kittanning, Manor, East Franklin, West Franklin, Valley, North Buffalo and Rayburn.
- In the DuBois area, this speed will be available in the following areas: DuBois, Reynoldsville, Sykesville, Troutville Borough, Falls Creek Borough, Winslow Township, Sandy Township, Brady Township, Union Township, Washington Township, Snyder Township and Horton Township.
- In Elk County, this speed will be available in Ridgway Borough and Ridgway Township.
- In Indiana County, this speed is available in the boroughs of Indiana, Clymer, Creekside and Ernest and the townships of Indiana, White, Armstrong, Rayne and Cherry Hill.
- In West Virginia, this speed was launched in November 2017 in the Morgantown area. It has now launched throughout Comcast systems in Monongalia, Marion and Taylor counties, including Fairmont, Grafton, Mannington, Rivesville, White Hall, Monongah, Worthington and Pleasant Valley.
- In Maryland, this speed has now launched in Accident, Friendsville, McHenry and Blakeslee.
Comcast’s new 1 Gigabit Internet service uses DOCSIS 3.1 technology that makes it possible to deliver ultra-fast speeds over the existing communications lines that are already in most homes and neighborhoods. To enjoy the service, all customers need to do is install a new DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem.

- Download a 5 Gigabyte HD movie in 40 seconds;
- Download a 600 Megabyte TV episode in four seconds;
